Billing & Insurance FAQ

  • Stephen Haramis, LCSW-R currently accepts most commercial Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna and MVP of Rochester Plans. Unfortunately, we do not accept Medicaid or Medicaid Option plans.

Andrea Tomaino, MHC,LP is currently in the credentialling process to accept insurance and does not accept insurance at this time. In lieu of this, she has a very reasonable self-pay rate.

  • We accept American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, Cash and Check.

Additionally, if you have HSA or FSA funds through your plan, these are accepted as well.

  • Payment is managed securely through TherapyNotes, a HIPAA-compliant practice management system. Fees are collected at the time of service using the payment method you have on file. TherapyNotes allows for electronic payments, including credit or debit cards, and helps ensure that billing is handled consistently and confidentially.

If insurance is involved, claims are submitted as appropriate, and you are responsible for any copays, deductibles, or balances not covered by insurance. For out-of-network services, documentation can be provided to support reimbursement when applicable. Payment policies are reviewed in advance so expectations are clear before therapy begins.

  • This amount can range and vary dependent upon the provider in the practice you are seeing, your insurance plan or self-pay rate. Generally therapy costs in our practice range from $95 to $150 for individual sessions. Couples/Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Intake Evaluations and Psychological Evaluations are rated differently.

  • Yes, at any time you may contact us to receive a statement of payments made, services rendered and any balance.

  • This is dependent upon your insurance plan, your own out of network benefits and the service being received. We will work together to see if this is an option for you for reimbursement.

  • Federal law requires that an estimate of treatment costs be provided to new clients. In psychotherapy, the total length and cost of treatment cannot be predicted in advance. Until we complete an initial evaluation and begin working together, it is not possible to determine specific diagnoses, treatment needs, or the appropriate duration of care.

Session fees in the practice range from $95–$165 per individual or couples session, with group therapy sessions at $45. The frequency of sessions is typically weekly to every three weeks, depending on clinical needs and mutual agreement. You may use this range and frequency to estimate potential costs over time.

On average, my patients attend at least 10-20 therapy sessions, though some require fewer and others benefit from longer-term work. Decisions about session frequency and length of treatment are made collaboratively and revisited as therapy progresses. You are never obligated to schedule additional sessions.

Additional fees may apply for missed appointments without sufficient notice or for time related to legal matters such as subpoenas.

I welcome open discussion about treatment length, session frequency, and financial concerns at any point. When ending therapy, I encourage planning 1–3 final sessions to support a thoughtful and clinically appropriate conclusion.
